The Question
A true connection is spontaneous and unscripted, like bonding with a stranger you share the trip to work with.
What if that person you cross path with is on the opposite side of the world?
Would you stop to shake hands? Surely such moments are fleeting but the emotion is everlasting and reminds us how similar we all are.
Why
We are all united, connected but we forget.
Human empathy requires feelings and the best way to feel is by touch.
Portals allows you to see, hear and touch people from all over the world.
Our Proposal
Our design is targeting people in urban spaces to stop for a moment and glance through a portal into another city concurrently in real time. The concept allows one to become an observer of human behavior over many locations and realize that all people are alike regardless of their color, religion, habits and language. The portal is more than just a window into the other side, it allows for physical interaction with individuals as well, a virtual handshake, an offering of peace and harmony as it may. The idea is to bridge the gap in perceptions through sensory connections.
How
Portals pop up in many different cities, museums or heavily trafficked areas.
Through a thin screen surrounded by energy rings a view form another world suddenly appears, a city with different people in different clothes and dialect greet us with words of welcome and hello.

A Virtual Handshake. Touch is international
Regardless of your language, a soft touch is always a sign of harmony and good will. Haptic speakers and pressure sensors record and transmit your touch thus establishing the world’s first virtual handshake.
Result
The portal swivel around its base and follows you around, its narrow beam speaker is only audible if the beam crosses your path, you know when you have been chosen and this beam pulls you in to say hello back or Marhaba? Besides the usual visual and audio live feedback, we added touch receptors that records your hand movement on a special pad and transforms them into haptic pulses generated by speakers which can be felt on both ends of the portal in real time.
